Australian man dies snorkelling in Bali

AUTHORITIES in Bali say they've found the body of a missing Australian snorkeller.
A BALI Search and Rescue Office spokesman said the body of Martin Snodgrass, 47, was found near Padangbai about 11.30am local time on Saturday.
The West Australian was reportedly last seen at the resort he was staying at in nearby Candidasa on Thursday. Authorities, who say beach conditions were rough on Thursday, also retrieved his flippers. A friend of Mr Snodgrass who gave her name as Hermin said he was aware before leaving for the snorkelling trip that conditions were rough. "He wouldn't allow me to come because he said it's not safe enough for me," she said. "His family is planning to come to Bali tomorrow." Chief detective Noor Margantara said investigations found Mr Snodgrass had gone out alone, despite knowing the potential danger. "The victim went alone from the hotel to the beach for snorkelling," he said. "The victim was offered to go by boat, but he refused and he chose to leave on his own from the beach." Sanglah forensic hospital's Ida Bagus Putu Alit said it was likely Mr Snodgrass died by drowning.
