Police told Sky News the bodies remained at the scene and a pathologist was expected to attend sometime on Monday.
Holmes, who is alleged to have used a number of aliases, was deported to Northern Ireland from the US in 2006 after being arrested in connection with $500,000 property scam.
The grandmother disappeared from Ballynahinch, County Down, in January 2011 and a warrant was issued for her arrest after she failed to attend court on a series of alleged frauds totaling £18,000.
There is no suggestion that Mr Ruttle was involved in any of the alleged frauds.
