Police investigate death of Victorian man in Bali

By Asad Qureshi

AN AUSTRALIAN man has died suddenly while on holiday in Bali on Wednesday and authorities say it appears the man suffered a heart attack shortly after ordering breakfast.
The 50-year-old, who is listed as having been born in Seymour, collapsed at the restaurant of his hotel in Kuta about 9am on Wednesday. He was unable to be revived and doctors said it appeared he may have suffered a heart attack.
However the cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is conducted.
The incident occurred at the Rooftop Restaurant on the fourth floor of the 101 Legian Hotel in Kuta.
Waitress Ni Komang Hennytasari was working at the restaurant and told News Corp Australia that the man and his friend, with whom he was holidaying, had been sitting at table 31. She had asked him how he was and he told her: “I am not feeling well.”
She wished him well and about five minutes later the man’s friend called for help as the man fell to the floor. Doctors were called but he could not be revived.
Denpasar police chief, Anak Agung Made Sudana, said it appeared, from external examinations, that he may have suffered a heart attack.
He said police were co-ordinating with the Australian Consulate in Bali about whether the man’s family wanted an autopsy conducted.
The head of forensics at the Sanglah Hospital, where the body is now held, said the cause of death could not be concluded without an autopsy.
“The victim died a sudden death. It may be caused by a heart attack. But we need an autopsy to find the cause,” Dr Ida Bagus Putu Alit said.
The man checked in to the 101 Legian Hotel on April 19 and was due to stay until April 29.
