Pakistani Judge sworn in as Chief Justice of Gambia

ISLAMABAD--Justice (Retd) Ali Nawaz Chowhan has been appointed as Chief Justice, Supreme Court of the Republic of the Gambia. Dr. Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh, President of the Republic of Gambia administered the oath to Justice Chowhan at a dignified ceremony held in Banjul, capital of The Gambia. The ceremony was attended by the Cabinet Ministers and other high ranking officials of the Government, says a message received here Monday. � Pakistan and The Gambia enjoy close and cordial relations. The appointment of a Pakistani Judge to head the highest judicial body in The Gambia attests to the warmth and friendship that the two countries have been enjoying in their relations. � Justice Chowhan is a distinguished and renowned international legal practitioner. He has served as a Judge of the Lahore High Court. He has also served as a Judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Justice Chowhan is a Graduate of Columbia Law School. He is the second Judge from Pakistan to serve as Chief Justice of The Gambia. -Agencies
