One woman has been injured after a passenger train crashed into a concrete buffer at Melling station in Lower Hutt.
Ambulance crews helped 15 people get off the train after it ploughed into the buffer and hit a concrete pole at the end of the line on Tuesday morning.
"There was one woman in her 40s injured, just bruising after a fall, nothing too serious," Ambulance Communications team leader Mark Shakespeare told NZ Newswire.
He said the passengers were "a little weary and shaken up, but not too bad".
KiwiRail and TranzMetro have reported the crash only as an "operational incident" and say they will be releasing further details shortly.
Services on the line have been suspended and buses are being used to take passengers to Petone to use other train services.
